Helping our financial management customers who are members of the Stolen Generations
As financial manager, we help people to look after their financial affairs and make decisions in their best interest.
Ilknur Al-Attaar, Manager Estate Management, shares another side to the role, to ensure our customers receive the payments and benefits they are entitled to.
Over the last two years we have supported our financial management customers who were part of the Stolen Generations.
We worked with the Stolen Generations Reparations Unit to claim payments under the NSW Government’s Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme and Stolen Generations Funeral Assistance Fund on behalf of our financial management customers who are members of the Stolen Generations.
'The scheme, which will run until 30 June 2023, is open to living Stolen Generation survivors who were removed by, committed to, or otherwise came to be in the care of the Aborigines Protection or Welfare Boards up until the Aborigines Protection Act 1909 was repealed on 2 June 1969', said Ilknur.
'We partnered up with the Stolen Generations Reparations Unit to identify those customers who may be entitled to the payment under the scheme and submit applications on their behalf', said Ilknur.
'We also work with the customer and their family to determine if they would like the Reparations Unit to contact them to discuss whether the customer would like to receive an apology or make an impact statement.'
National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year to mark the anniversary of the Bringing them Home report.
This day is an opportunity to come together to commemorate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities who were affected by these policies, and to share in the healing process together.
