Supporting James and Monica in their time of need
Planning ahead is essential to ensuring you are well equipped for life’s unexpected and crucial moments. Monica, a NSW Trustee and Guardian customer, knows this firsthand after experiencing the recent passing of her beloved husband James.
In 2021 James was diagnosed with terminal cancer and his life expectancy was short.
‘For our children’s sake, James and I talked about the need to make a Will but neither of us knew just how little time we had after his diagnosis’, says Monica.
James lived at home until it was no longer practical for him to do so. It was during his final days at home, that they realised what they needed to do.
‘He was in so much pain. I just remember he kept saying get in touch with someone to make my Will.’
A Will is a legal document with instructions for who you want to inherit your assets, care for your children, and be the executor of your estate when you pass away.
Monica contacted NSW Trustee and Guardian shortly after James was taken to hospital.
Due to the increased COVID-19 restrictions, Wills and Estate Planning Consultant Margaret conducted an urgent video conference appointment.
‘Margaret was so empathetic. I was a mess during the whole process. I was sent a link that was easy to access making the appointment so simple.’
The next day Wills and Estate Planning Manager Tanya met Monica at the Service NSW Centre to deliver James’ Will.
‘We know that these situations are hard so to make the process as simple as possible I arranged to meet Monica close to home. This way she was able to remain close to the hospital’, says Tanya.
‘I immediately took the Will to the hospital so James could sign it.’
James sadly passed just three days later.
‘I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I am so appreciative of both Margret’s and Tanya’s efforts.’
‘Thank you for making a difficult time a little easier.’
Our expert team will guide you through writing a Will, so you can have a say during your life’s most critical moments.
